It just occured to me to wonder if Archive Of Our Own would be a suitable place for my dual fanfic which technically violates fanfiction.net rules? I skimmed the site and didn't see any comparable rule.
daibhidc: (Sci Fi)
I had a great idea for a fic.

Well, okay, I had a great gimmick for a fic. An homage to those classic comic book fake crossovers, where Team 1 at Publisher A fights thinly disguised pastiches of Team 2 at Publisher B, while Team 2 is also fighting a thinly disguised Team 1 in their own book. (Justice League v Heroes of Angor/Avengers v Squadron Supreme; Freedom Fighters v Crusaders/Invaders v Crusaders; New Teen Titans v RECOMbatants/DNAgents v Project Youngblood). I was particularly inspired by the Titans/Agents thing where both books actually told the same story, the only difference being which team died at the end.

And I wrote it, or them, and I went to upload them to fanfiction.net. Luckily, it made me check the rules of submission before I did. Because there on the list of Actions Not Allowed was "2. Rewriting names of characters/locations of one story in order to upload to multiple categories."

Which is precisely the underlying joke of my stories. I could just post one of them, but it wouldn't be the same. (If I was just posting one, what I'd probably do is rewrite it into an actual crossover. And rewrite it quite thouroughly, since at the moment it mostly hangs on the gimmick.) Ah, well. Somewhere else, assuming there is somewhere else that doesn't have that rule...

Um, yeah. So, in keeping with my resolution to share all my fanfic, regardless how silly, this happened.

I've written a new story on Teaspoon. It's a bit over 300 words and it's called Completely Bricked.

So, um, yeah. It's possible I got a certain video game for my birthday.

Yes, I’ve done some more. I was really struggling with Police/Firefighters for some reason, so this time I’ve gone for Mirror Universe instead.

Feel free to throw more characters at me.

Give me a character/pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universes for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky.

  1. Wild West

  2. Cyberpunk

  3. Shapeshifters

  4. Pirates

  5. ...In SPACE!!

  6. Born Another Gender

  7. Schoolfic

  8. Police/Firefighters

  9. Urban Fantasy

  10. Steampunk

(Like lost spook I didn't fancy doing Harem, but I'm not confident in my ability to do Regency either. So, Steampunk.)

Crossover fanfic idea. A murder is committed outside a transatlantic police convention. Lestrade, Japp, Cramer, Gordon, Gilks and Tupper pool their resources to solve the crime without the aid of any smartarse amateurs.

(Someone must have already written this, though...)

Some of you may be familiar with Sue Limb's Radio 4 comedies The Wordsmiths at Gorsemere and Gloomsbury, which are about oddly familiar groups of writers: The former features, as well as William and Dorothy Wordsmith, Percy Jelly, Lord Biro and Sir Walter Spott, while the latter stars Ginny Fox and Vera Sackcloth-Vest, as well as D.H. Lollipop, T.S. Jellytot, and so on. They're very funny, even if you only have a vague idea about the originals.

So, in the spirit of those I came up with:

So I left that cliffhanger hanging for a while to see if it would attract interest. And it didn't.

Nevertheless, for the benefit of [livejournal.com profile] pedanther, if no-one else, League of Extraordinary Gentlebeasts is now completed and may be found, as another pseudo-Victorian adventure might put it, via this finely crafted link.
daibhidc: (Animated crest)
In which we learn why these stalwarts have been assembled, your humble author desecrates another children's classic, and there's at least one entirely unnecessary cameo.

Oh and I don't want to say too much about the cliffhanger, but I'm quite pleased with the cliffhanger.

The story continues to be here. Final two chapters (and I've just realised I'm not sure why I'm releasing it in two-chapter chunks) coming soon.
daibhidc: (Sci Fi)
Okay, so after Discworld DC Heroes and Sherlock-ified All Consuming Fire, you might think "more ridiculous" is a tough bar to reach. But this is so ridiculous that even after I completed it, I stared at it for a while thinking "Do I actually dare publish this on a website where people can see it?"

Well, it turns out I do. Are you ready for The League of Extraordinary Gentlebeasts? Is anyone? Is being ready for it even theoretically possible?

2 chapters up, four to go. Possibly exactly as daft as you think, perhaps a bit dafter.
daibhidc: (Sci Fi)
Okay, I was lying in bed last night, and I suddenly started thinking about this, possibly because I'd been reading about Muppet Fairy Tale Theatre on Muppet Wiki, and have just started watching Season 3 of OUAT on Netflix. (So if anything here is contra-indicated by something that happens after "Bad Form", don't tell me!)
Nonsense under the cut. )
daibhidc: (Animated crest)
I'm probably going to get very stuck on these but ...

Memed from [livejournal.com profile] john_amend_all:

Give me one of my stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future (after the end of the story), or sometime in the past (before the story started), and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.
daibhidc: (Rincewind)
So, on a bit of a fanfic high after uploading "The All-Consuming Fir" to Teaspoon, I opened chapter three of "Discworld's Finest" to poke about at it for a bit, as I've been doing on and off, mostly off, since 2003.

And after I'd poked at it for a bit, I thought "You know, this kind of looks like it might possibly be ... finished?" The idea took me so much by surprise that I almost panicked about it.

So, after a few days of double checking it really is finished, polishing up the epilogues I wrote ages ago, and reminding myself how Fanfiction.net actually works, "Discworld's Finest" is finally completed. And here it is.

So it just goes to show, sometimes the Things From The Depths Of The Hard Drive do actually get completed. Maybe there's even hope for that Storytime! (You know, the one I said I was going to publish once I'd got halfway but that might be "some time after Matt Smith regenerates", and that was meant to be a joke, because "The Eleventh Hour" hadn't even been broadcast yet...)
