* Put your music player on random.
* Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. [1]
* Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
* Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
* Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
My extrememly cheap music player doesn't have a random, so I used a random number generator instead. You should also be aware that this is about half the tracks I've got stored, and they're all from three or four albums (I'll add more when the CD drawer on the computer gets fixed, probably).
(Edit: Now with new songs replacing the instrumentals! Have another go!)
1. "Like the emptiness of knowing"
2. "A holiday, a holiday, and the first one of the year" (
speakr2customrs)
3. "Hey, all you Democrats"
4. "Great halls, wide with the ages"
5. Skipping several repetitions of the title, "A wizard when young has a staff that is small" ([Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com],
sabremeister,
speakr2customrs,
silly_swordsman)
6. "Deep in your blood, or a voice in your head"
7. "There was a lady lived in York" (
speakr2customrs)
8. "I held on for so long"
9. "Oh, my name it is [title]"
10 "Across the skies, the monuments stand" (
speakr2customrs)
11. "Through shadows of evening, dark corners of night." (
sabremeister)
12. "I'm going away to leave you"
13. "When you close your eyes" (
speakr2customrs)
14. "One of these days, baby, one of these days"
15. "To the left of the stage"
16. "What's the spring breathing jasmine and rose?" (
curiouswombat)
17. "Everything I need to know I learnt from watching TV"
18. "Amethyst from Thunder Bay"
19. "From up here, she said, there's no compromise"
20. "[title] a's a' ghaoith" (
speakr2customrs)
21. "I took a place in a farm in [title]"
22. "There's a watcher waiting on the edge of the world" (
speakr2customrs)
23. "I still remember late St Vincent nights"
24. "Sunburst on the morning moor" (
speakr2customrs)
25. "A royal king, a shining knight"
26. "We come from the lands of the snow and ice"
27. "The red hot sun burns up the hill" (
speakr2customrs)
28. "Here hangs an open landscape" (
speakr2customrs)
29. "So I'm standing in the desert getting gradually fried"
30. "With the eyes of a child" (
speakr2customrs)
31. "What do you buy yourself when you're the man"
32. (spoken) "Against the wash of stars, a nebula hangs" (
sabremeister made two guesses, one of them was right)
(If anyone thinks I should replace the instrumentals and/or 9 and 17 [since I'm not sure they're transcribed correctly] let me know.) On
silly_swordsman's advice, I've done so. (And in answer to his question, because I'd have found that complicated. I've tried it with the replacements).

Date: 2008-09-29 12:25 am (UTC)Yes, you should replace the instrumentals. If you can do random numbers, why not assign a number to all CDs and use one random to pick CD, and one to pick song on it for grater variation?

Date: 2008-09-29 01:19 am (UTC)22) Runrig "Healer in Your Heart"
24) Runrig, "Flower of the West"
If 26) had been "we come from the lands of the ice and snow" it would be Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" - I don't know if you made a typo or if there is some different song with similar lyrics.
30) Runrig, "Hearthammer"
I bet that at least one of the instrumental tracks is one of the Malcolm Jones-penned Runrig instrumentals but I'm not going to try guessing which one is which.

Date: 2008-09-30 07:07 am (UTC)If 2 isn't Steeleye Span then it could be almost anyone but I'd guess Fairport Convention as that's the version I have - in fact I was thinking of Fairport when I said Steeleye anyway, as I found when I referred back to the chapter of my epic fanfic story in which it's one of the songs performed by one of the central characters.
