So I was going to watch last week's Smallville on Sky+, and it turned out I still hadn't watched the week before's! The convention must have thrown me out of sync. Anyway, two "straight from the comics" concepts, which is usually enough to make me happy.

In the first one, however, the comics concept was Silver Banshee, a character straight from Scotireland. Luckily, the possession angle meant she didn't really have an accent in this version, but her descendant more than made up for it. And I kind of fastforwarded through the bedroom farce scene. But it was a fairly solid episode all-in-all, with Chloe and Ollie as a couple, and the Tess/Zod relationship getting even more twisted. (New drinking game: every time someone uses the word "kneel" in relation to Zod.)

"Checkmate" was more like it. Pam Grier makes an excellent Amanda Waller. Checkmate's interesting in the comics because it can be an sinister government conspiracy or heroic action spies, depending entirely on how much control Amanda and people like her have. In this version, obviously, it's the former.

Tess and Ollie's version of "misteltoe is deadly if you eat it" was a lot less forced than the original, and it's interesting that she doesn't get a mindwipe.

I think the storyline about Chloe going to far in trying to protect Clark and Clark being uncomfortable about this has now been resolved, or at least reached the point where they can have a sensible discussion about it. But then, there's now another Leaguer keeping secrets from the team...
