Ah, Scottish weather, eh?

When we arrived at the campsite on Friday, there was a bit of what the West Coast calls a smirr; a light drizzle that seemed to seep in everywhere. By the time we got the tents pitched it was nice and sunny and we were looking forward to the next couple of days.

We spent Saturday around Fort William, spending hours in the Treasures of the Earth museum, and having a (very) late lunch at a nice restaurant next to the West Highland Museum. By the time we got back to the car, it was drizzling again, and we weren't sure if the barbeque was going to happen. By the time we got back to the campsite, it was bucketing down. We rushed into the "living room" area of my sister's tent (she had a two section tent with room for the kids, Mum and I had singles) and played snap and Scrabble while we waited for it to clear up. It didn't.

Eventually Mum braved the elements to get the picnic stuff from the car, and we had a sort of supper. Then we started having to move stuff away from the edges, because the tents turned out not to be that waterproof...

It was still raining when I fled to my own tent and discovered small pools on the groundsheet, and made sure all my books and magazines were in plastic bags. It was still raining when I woke up on Sunday, although it had died down enough that we could make tea.

So we bundled everything up as fast as we could ... and then the sun came out again.

you know the old saying:

"if you can't see the hills it's raining, if you can see the hills it's just coming on to rain".
