Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would last year, fewer than you thought, or about what you predicted?
I didn't make any predictions. Although I think it has been a quiet year for me.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Here, and alt.drwho.creative. I've got a fanfiction.net account, but I keep forgetting about it.
As ever, Imran Inayat put my This Time Round stories on the This Time Round archive.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?
Fandom: If you'd told me in Jan 09 that this year I was going to write a Star Trek story, without crossing it over with Doctor Who or Discworld, I would have been a bit surprised.
Genre: If you'd told me the above fic was going to be completely serious, I simply wouldn't have believed you. It'd be nice to have a non-comedic fic under my belt, but it wasn't going to happen.
And yet...
What's your favourite story last year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest?
Tricky one. I'm quite pleased with "Reflections of the Future", obviously. But I'm also terribly fond of my "appalling pun" fics. I'm embarrassingly happy with this, which is as silly as very silly thing indeed.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
Not sure. "TTR/TDTO: The Two Davids (Reprise)" got a lot of positive comment.
Story most under appreciated by the universe?
Dunno. There were a couple that garnered little-to-no reaction, but frankly, looking back at them, they deserved it.
Story that could have been better?
"TTR:Whatever Next", my second Thursday Next/TTR crossover, was deeply flawed (basically consisting of one long infodump leading to a weak punchline), but the flaws were intristic to the story, and I'm not sure what I could have done about them.
"Not A Chance" (which I'm not linking to) was a bad idea badly executed, and could have been "improved" by my not posting a story at all.
Sexiest story?
Um ... no. I leave that sort of thing to BK Willis...
Most fun story?
"The Two Davids (Reprise)". Writing a ten year old Tenth Doctor is so much fun it's a shame I can't think of more things to do with him.
Story with single sweetest moment?
The story that made you cry?
The trouble with mostly doing extremely silly drabbles is that these simply don't apply.
Hardest story to write?
Um, probably "Werewolves Of Stockbridge". I knew what the punchline was, but I spent hours trying to work out how to get there without telegraphing the gag.
If incomplete fics count, my upcoming "TTR: Storytime!" fic has been so hard to write, it hasn't been. I decided several months ago that when I got to chapter six, I'd just publish what I had. Since then, I've got halfway through chapter two...
Easiest story to write?
Most of them. I come up with a funny idea, I write it down. I check it's got 100 words.
I think the only non-drabble I wrote this year was "Reflections of the Future", and it practically wrote itself.
Most overdue story?
The "Storytime!" I was hoping to have it ready for Christmas. Actually, I was originally hoping to have it ready for last Christmas!
Did you take any writing risks last year? What did you learn from them?
"Reflections of the Future". I can write sensible, serious, in-continuity stories.
I may even write another one someday...
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Finish that dratted "Storytime!"
