The 2010 Doctor Who logo is out. It looks like this:

Well, my first thought was "That's a Doctor Who logo". And while I've got used to it, there's no question that in 2005, my first thought was "That's not a Doctor Who logo!" So that's a point in it's favour. I'm assuming the DW-TARDIS is an ancillary logo for merchandise and stuff, and isn't actually going to appear right next to it on screen. If so then that's going to put me right off it, even though I like the DW-TARDIS as a design.

From what a friend of a friend has said elsewhere, Broadcast magazine seemingly confirms the TARDISey bit is for branding and merchandising and isn't actually part of the proper logo.

Yes, that's definitely a Doctor Who logo. :-) I like the Tardis thingie as well, so long as it's not supposed to be part of the logo itself.

it looks like an updated version of the 1996 tele-movie logo. I can see similar styling cues there.

The text version is neat. I never really took to the Davies logos, but this is definitely something I can get behind. It's suitably slick and uncluttered.

The TARDIS-shaped initials, however, seem a bit like they're trying too hard.

Just to let you know: the BBC won't let anyone outside of Britain see this video.

If you go to their website, they'll let you click a special link that shows you what the new logo looks like, but that's all they will show -- they won't let you see the comparitive video.

...Don't ask me why. I mean, what's to be gained from hiding it from a large segment of their fans? :-/

My thought, when I saw the Tardis version of the initials, was:

"Too cute by half!"

then:

"They're trying to be all hip and Internetsy!"

General consensus of the news sites would seem to indicate that the one on the left is the actual logo for the show's titles, and the DW is a secondary insignia for merchandising; I'm thinking book/video spines and so on.

Yes, that's my understanding as well. I still think they're trying to be all hip and Internetsy, what with the fans' abreviation DW, and all.

It's kinda cool that the TARDIS gets some love, though.
