Merlin - eps 2 and 3
Oct. 4th, 2009 12:06 pmForgot to write about this last week, so here's a quick rundown of my thoughts on the last two eps.
Merlin finally does the King Incognito plot. Of course, Arthur being a Jerk Jock, this isn't so he can gain insight into the doings of the common people, but so he can beat up his knights without them holding back. He does get a bit of insight into the common people anyway, though.
And that's where it gets interesting. Because, as the title suggests, the important bit isn't Arthur entering the tourney incognito, or even the assassin trying to kill him, it's his becoming aware of how he feels about Gwen. It is very clear that, star-crossed though it may be, Arthur/Gwen is now the Official Couple.
So where does that leave Morgana? Merlin/Morgana, of course. When she falls ill in "The Nightmare Begins", Merlin's concern even penetrates Arthur's lack of awareness. Merlin also arranges for her to be taught to control her magic by the Druids, which means the return of resident Creepy Child Mordred (who gets to show just how powerful he really is). And the dragon strongly hints that Morgana is a potential threat to Arthur, which foreshadows ... something, the changes to the legend make it very hard to be certain what.
(I may have missed some details of this episode; I was watching it at my sister's house, with my nephew rushing around on a scooter, and Hannah Montana blaring out of my neice's room...)

Date: 2009-10-04 03:58 pm (UTC)I saw the preview for next week. Looks like The Knight in the Cart, except with a teenaged wizard instead of a cart.
