Yes, it's back. I sort of feel obliged to talk about it, since I did regular reports on my feelings about the last series, but I don't have much to say.
Basically, everything seems to be same-old, same-old. Arthur's a jerk, Uther hates magic, Merlin tries to do the right thing in the most cack-handed manner imaginable before finally getting his act together in the last ten minutes, and Gaius is the only one with two brain cells to rub together. (Besides Morgana and Gwen, of course, but they were hardly in this one.)
I was surprised at how quickly Merlin defeated the body-hopping sorcerer, since I was expecting him to be this year's Big Bad (although I'm sure Nimueh will be back for the finale). I wasn't surprised at his needing to ask the dragon for help. I didn't notice any indications of how much time had passed since the first series, but I like to think that Merlin swore he would never talk to the dragon again about three days ago...
As far as "What they're doing to the myths" goes, the big news is that they actually have an Arthur/Gwen moment, which the first series studiously avoided. The teaser suggests more such, as well as the return of Mordred and Lancelot. Oh, and the ending credits listed a "Sir Geraint", but I'm not even sure who he was...
