Space babies, space babies!
They're so crazy, they're so wild!
It's a small step for a man but,
Even smaller for a child!

(Anyone except me remember that? No? Okay, carry on...)

Anyway, this was fun. The babies were adorable, the Bogeyman was suitably scary (and disgusting) and I liked that we kicked off with an Everybody Lives! episode.

The traditional RTD "I'm the last of the Time Lords, because my people are dead" moment was nicely done, and I appreciate that RTD has added the fact the Doctor was not originally a Time Lord into this without actually going into the depths of what that was about. If we can collapse the entire Flux nonsense down to "The Doctor was adopted", rather than "The Doctor is the specialest being in the Galaxy and the source of all the Time Lords' powers", then I'll be a happy man. Likewise, "my people were wiped out" is all you need, not "at least twice".

I'm not sure about the butterfly gag, especially when it's explained that the TARDIS has a gadget to stop this happening, but also Ruby can never go to Ruby Road because that would change the timeline. Then again, the timeline appears to be changing anyway, so who knows?

I was somewhat pleased that the Bogeyman turned out to have a scientific (ish) explanation. After the Toymaker's return was explained as the Doctor bringing superstition back to the universe, followed by an army of actual goblins, I was starting to suspect this was going to be all magic villains, and I wasn't sure how I felt about that. And then the next episode has precisely that...

Actually, this was also fun, although I have to admit, if there's going to be any more of the Toymaker's kids showing up (and obviously there is, since the Maestro names two), I am probably going to get very tired of "The villain has arbitrary magic powers, but is bound by equally arbitrary rules which can be used to defeat them." Still, any episode that features the Beatles, a diagetic appearance by not just the theme tune but also Flavia's Theme, and a totally ridiculous Sudden Musical Ending ("always a twist" indeed) is okay by me.

I'm not clear if the Doctor defeating the Maestro in 1963 means the forty years of no music before that still happened? That seems like a bigger deal than "mavity" even if it does get sorted out by the present day.
