I'm not signed up for Yuletide this year. However, I came much closer to signing up for Yuletide than I ever have before!

Admittedly, this is a very low bar to clear, and would be adequetely covered by "remembering I was going to". But I also finally got round to looking up how it actually works, looked through the list of fandoms, chose three I'd like fic of and four I thought I could write, and even filled in most of the form.

...unfortunately, I did all of this yesterday, having immediately discovered that the closing date was today (9:00 UST), and in between a lot of other stressy stuff. So when I went to finish the form by writing what I liked about the fandoms and the kind of fic I liked, my brain broke. I'm not great at specifying stuff or asking for things in the first place, and I just couldn't think. But I certainly wasn't going to send it off blank, so I didn't send it at all.

(Yes, if I was here more often, I'd have seen my friends talking about it before now. But I wasn't.)

Anyway, now that I know the system, I'm probably going to have a look at pinch-hitting and treats, and I know what I'm doing for next year, so here's hoping.

Aw, a near miss! Good luck to next year.

Although, if you're still on the fence, you do realise that it was originally supposed to close at 9am, but now is closing at 9pm UTC, so you've till about 8-9 hours to go. (I'm just about to go and remove some offers I think on reflection may have been unwise.)

But I totally understand about not necessarily wanting to do things with deadlines & stuff. And also, if you don't feel up to asking for specifics, you honestly don't have to. You can just request your chosen fandom & characters with no details. Some writers love getting blank sign-ups! The only caveat to that is that you have to be reasonably sure that you're going to be happy with most things you might reasonably get for that, and you can still put in a few DNWs in the box if you have any hard and fast no-nos. I love writing letters and also getting sign-ups with letters, because that's my preference, but loads of people don't do them at all & there is absolutely no requirement to supply any additional details if you find it difficult.

ETA: I see you were not keen to do a blank sign-up, so, again, probably if this is first Step to Yuletide, pinch-hitting and treating is a sensible Step 2, but just in case: no need to say what you love; it suits some people, doesn't feel right for others. And you don't have to give specific prompts, but you're requesting the fandom + character(s) so you want to see something (or all the things) - so is that just MORE PLEASE, which = more of canon, missing scenes, missing adventures, casefic etc.; or you'd love backstory, or you're just really annoyed that they cancelled it, so you want post-canon (or all of the above)? And just say that, no frills or gushing if that isn't your style.

You can also make a blank placeholder letter post here, leave your actual AO3 sign-up blank (barring any Do Not Wants that might wreck a fic for you if you have any, which do need to go in there to be enforceable by the Mods, & you can write "See my letter for optional details") + the link to the placeholder post -you then have 48 hrs to a week or so to edit your request details at your leisure, with hopefully a bit less time-related panic.

Thanks for letting me know about the extention. I think I will just leave it this year, but I'll bear this in mind for next time.
