Yeah, so I'm getting there.

When it started I thought John rather than Mary having the connection to Sholto was a nice twist, although as it turned out the story bore virtually no resemblance to The Sign of the Four beyond the names[1]. Although that's more similarity than "The Bloody Guardsman" had to "The Blanched Solider", which I take to be the inspiration, largely because that story was also told by Holmes himself, and a fair chunk of the wedding speech came from the opening paragraph.

Speaking of which, the wedding speech was brilliant. Particularly the reveal that he was doing "This is why getting Sherlock to do a wedding speech is a bad idea" on purpose for a point. Although even after that, somehow his speech - even at its most sincere and moving - seemed to be mostly about him...

In fact, the whole "Sherlock is trying to help plan a wedding" concept was hilarious. And as I may have mentioned back when I reviewed "The Empty Hearse", I really like that Mary is actively encouraging of Sherlock and John's friendship when it would be so easy to write her as jealous and resentful, or at least patiently accepting. (Speaking of jealous and resentful, the bit where Sherlock takes offence at Mary telling him Sholto is the most anti-social man John knows is fantastic.)

The actual locked room mystery (I say "actual" although it's apparent that the crimes in Sherlock are an excuse for the character stuff, not the other way round) was a neat idea, and I loved the portrayal of Sherlock's brain as a courtroom (and interesting that Mycroft is the judge). Although not as much as I loved him trying to Sherlock Scan while drunk and getting results like "Sitty thing??"

And the title doesn't get explained until the very end, after the Title Drop for the next episode. Which I will almost certainly watch at some point this year...

[1]And a very brief flashback of Sherlock and John chasing a person of restricted growth with a blowgun, which doesn't appear to be related to the actual case at all.
