Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I'll make this quick, but basically, mixed feelings.

On the one hand, I liked just about everything about it; Nick Frost's Santa, the polar researchers who weren't, multiple "we're still dreaming" twists, comedy elves, scary duplicates, Danny Pink's last hurrah, and a double-twist ending. (Although my sister, if she watched it at all, will doubtless be infuriated that they keep pretending "Almost Amy" is going to leave and she never does.)

On the other hand, I'm 38. I don't know what a child would have made of it, but I'm a bit bothered about how much of it hinges on Santa not being real. (And yes, there's the bit where the comedy elves point out that the Doctor makes as little sense as Santa does, but still.)

Apart from that, excellent. But that's a big question mark. I'll come to a conclusion once I've had a chance to speak to my resident child-viewers.

I think there was an element in there of Santa is real on a meta level, even if there isn't an actual physical Santa with a sleigh that's bigger on the inside. The sort of thing that a child who's just started to not believe in Santa would find comforting. And there's that tangerine on the windowsill at the very end...

I also got the impression that Danny Pink might have been partly real, that there could have been some leakage into the dreamscape from where Danny's personality is stored. Whether or not that was intended, I'm sure it's going to generate fanfic.
