Techie advice question

A few days ago I thought "I'm sick of lugging my laptop around when I want to show photos to Gran, so she doesn't have to squint at the tiny screen on my camera. But I'd rather take pics with the camera than my phone. What I need is one of those SD-adapters, so I can load a micro-SD onto my camera, take pictures, then show the pictures to Gran on my phone." So I ordered a micro-SD card and an adapter.
The micro-SD arrived yesterday, and I experimented with it by plugging it into my phone. The adapter arrived today (actually, it turned out to be a pack of three adapters), and that's where the problem started.
I put the micro-SD into the adapter and inserted it into the camera. It said it needed formatted. I clicked okay. It asked if I was sure. I clicked okay again.
It said "Formatting" for a bit, then said it needed formatted and asked me to click okay. I repeated this several times.
O-kay. I put the card into the laptop, and the laptop had no problem reading it. I discovered the phone had stored some Android stuff on it. I formatted it on the laptop no problem, and figured that had been the problem. I put it back into the camera, and it said ... well, you can probably guess. I wondered if there was a problem with the adapter and used one of the others: same result.
Any ideas? Or should I just give it up?
