...have spontaneously decided to become even harder to use.

Now it doesn't seem to link to a specific post any more. So if you search for posts containing, say, "Discworld" and "Doctor Who", you get the start of a huge thread and it's up to you to find the six posts within where the two terms appear in conjunction. They won't be highlighted, either.

I'm sure I used it yesterday and it wasn't doing this.

I think they're losing posts too. There's been more'n once in the last year or less when I've searched on Google groups for a search string that ought to have pulled up one post or multiple posts, and only pulled up one part of a serial or not found any post at all. And I lost the newsreader I used for ten years when my ISP discontinued its shell connection, so it's distressing to fear Google is becoming untrustworthy.

After some experimentation, it looks like some posts are simply missing, and others are there, but invisible to that particular search string.

(For some reason, I can get all the posts mentioning me with "Daibhid Ceanneadeach" in quotes, but there are apparently no posts containing the two words if I search without the quotes. Which is just silly.)

I use XNews for posting, on the recommendation of some people on afp when AOL Newsgroups stopped.
