Sadly, despite the title, this doesn't introduce Ambush Bug to the Smallville-verse.

(At least, I don't think it does; there is a teleporter, but he has a French accent, so he's probably Warp from The New Teen Titans. If you don't know who Ambush Bug is, think Deadpool with teleporting powers and no homicidal tendencies.)

This week's returning guests characters are General and Lucy Lane. The General is involved in the Vigilante Registration Act, which is Smallville's take on the various superhuman control acts that have appeared in various comics, most notably the various Mutant Acts in X-Men comics. With Green Arrow already a public hero, I'm very much afraid that Smallville is about to completely rip off Marvel's Civil War with Ollie as Iron Man and Clark as Captain America.

And I have to say, I am not fond of the recent DCU reinvention of Sam Lane as a ranting General Ripper type, and I'm not much happier with it here. At least this incarnation of General Lane genuinely loves his daughters and, regardless of his opinion of Clark, respects Lois's choice, which is more than can be said of the DCU version. The twist that his horrible treatment of Clark was actually his way of testing Lois was cute.

I was right! The Suicide Squad leader is Rick Flag!

How dumb does Lucy have to be to believe that she's been asked to secretly plant a homing device on her father to protect him?

The idea that Ollie isn't comfortable with Tess being Watchtower is nicely handled (Chloe is coming back at some point, right?), as is the concept that, as a public hero, he can't risk his underground associates being found through him.

And the Registration Act is passed. Now for Ollie to form the public New Justice League, while Clark leads the Secret Justice League...

Yeah, that Lucy thing just beggared belief. I mean I could kinda buy her slipping her dad a secret dossier. That is dodgy, but not unrealistic, putting a tracker on him though....wow. I mean that is just a whole new brand of stupid.

as for Gen Lane, well Michael Ironside turns up and plays Michael Ironside. He's always good value for money, no scenery left un-chewed...

Michael Ironside has made a career of playing the authority figure everyone respects and nobody likes.

Actually, I don't know who Deadpool is, but now I have an idea I didn't before.

Chloe is coming back at some point, right?

Since you ask, and you know people read you who've seen the series finale, I'll say: yes.

Does that imply not until the series finale 8-(?

More than this I don't remember exactly will not say.

Also, I recall that Ambush Bug didn't go out of his way to avoid homicides when first introduced, before Giffen really found the character's feet. But the Wikipedia article doesn't back me up.
