Arr, Jimlad, that be a fine episode, me hearties.
Wasn't that fun? A good old-fashioned pirate adventure, with the Black Spot and a siren, and a pirate captain who maybe doesn't really want to be one. Making the Jim Hawkins character his son, who thought he was still a Royal Navy captain was a masterstroke -- although I'm not clear how the kid found the ship without noticing it wasn't exactly a Naval vessel...
Captain Avery was an excellent character, from his concern about his son, to his figuring out the TARDIS, to his embarassment about his career. I really hope Space Captain Avery is set to return at some point.
And I love adventures where it turns out the alien monster isn't a monster, it's just alien. The misdirection was well done -- it's preying on the wounded and sick ... no, it's rescuing them. And the Doctor's string of "Ignore all my previous theories!" as he tried to figure it out was brilliant, especially the last one, where Amy says she's just stopped listening to them!
More of Eyepatch Woman! What is going on here? And it seems the TARDIS wasn't still working out if Amy was pregnant when we left last week, but is reporting that she is and isn't. Doubtless all will be revealed in the halfway-finale.

Date: 2011-05-08 12:47 pm (UTC)Other than that, yes pretty good, although I would have thought the Doctor knew how to do CPR better than Amy by now. And is it a competition to have Rory say "I'm a nurse" every episode (to his wife no less, who really ought to know that :-)).
