More comics wibbling.
Jan. 26th, 2011 04:00 pmThere's just been a two part story in Batman/Superman called "Worlds' Finest" in which Epoch, Lord of Time, battles Superman/Batman teams from various time periods. But it should actually have been called "Grant Morrison Is Awesome!" because it's clear writer Chris Roberson is a huge fan of Morrison's work. And quite rightly.
It opens with Epoch facing Superman and Batman One Million, from, obviously, Morrison's DC One Million. He escapes from them into One Million's "tesseract space", which turns out to be the same as the "timeless void" he built a castle in. The castle turns out to be Prometheus's HQ in the "Ghost Zone" from Morrison's JLA. Tying these together references that Morrison used the Ghost Zone to hint that several DC extradimensional areas were the same thing, and we also see General Zod (Phantom Zone), Phantom Girl (Buffer Zone) and Mon-El (Phantom Zone again, or possibly Stasis Zone).
Epoch ends up in the Late Silver Age, where there isn't quite as much room for Morrison references, but once he starts jumping into the future again, he encounters Damian Wayne as Batman (flashforwards in Morrison's Batman) and Superman Secondus (flashbacks in One Million, and the final panel of All-Star Superman), 30th century non-Morrison versions, and a new character called the Batsman accompanying the Unknown Superman of 4500AD (All-Star Superman again).
So yes, Morrison is awesome. And putting it all together is concentrated awesome.
