I got the Unseen Academicals Football Cards and album for Christmas, and it turns out they have a strange effect on me.

When I was a kid, I used to get sweetie-cigarettes from the grocer's van. (Just reading that sentence, it sounds like I grew up in the '30s rather than the '80s. But no, we did still have sweetie-cigarettes and grocer's vans.) Although I was never interested enough in sport to actually collect them, I was aware that there were football cards in the packets. I think I used to swap them for Doctor Who stickers at school.

That was about twenty-five years ago. But everytime I look at the Artificer's authentic-looking cards, my brain thinks "Sugar!", because it's expecting me to eat an entire packet of sweetie-cigarettes.

Heh. I remember those - and we had a grocer's van, too. Well, he was actually a vegetable man with a van. And he was called Mr Carrott, so people tend to wonder about that. (He uis, though - he gets mentioned in passing in Lynne Truss's Eats, shoots, and Leaves). :-D

Also, I have to say, because LJ is evil and therefore I saw your comment in my email, though it had vanished from the entry when I got there: if you withdrew it because of busyness/not reading Discworld fanfic/not ever beta-ing, then fair enough, but otherwise I really would be pleased if you'd be kind enough to take a look, as my particular worry is that while I avoided almost all background stuff as much as I could I wound up with a vital plot point around a minor political alliance. I'm au fait with general Discworld stuff, have most of the books, an can Google like anyone, but still... It would probably be better if I still had Monstrous Regiment, but I don't. (It's one of the very few I didn't really like. Now I am paid back for shoving it in the charity bag.)

But ignore me if you don't want to do it - I may in any case decide the fic is too bad to see the light of day, and I'm not netirely sure it even meets the prompt in question.

I was in a weird sort of mood yesterday, and deleted the comment for several reasons, none of which entirely hold water. Now that I'm in a less weird mood, I'd be delighted to.

Aw. Glad you're in a less weird mood, then. :-)

And thanks - can you pm me an email address I can send it to & hopefully will get a chance to do that tonight or tomorrow morning before I go away for the weekend.
