Well, that was interesting.

The romance section was quite sweet, especially Arthur talking about leaving the kingdom for Gwen's sake and becoming a farmer (with, obviously, Merlin coming along to do the actual farming).

The fact Uther killed Gwen's dad in Season One is something the series doesn't mention if it can possibly avoid it, but sometimes it fits into the plot, as here. I wonder if Morgana even remembers that when she first opposed Uther, it was for Gwen's sake, not her own?

I did flinch a bit when the disguised Merlin claimed to have cast his enchantment because Arthur's love for Gwen would destablise the kingdom. Gaius said the enchantment could be used to make someone fall in love, not that that was definitely what it had done - if Merlin had thought it through, he could have claimed he cast a completely different enchantment on Arthur, thereby leaving Arthur and Gwen's love untainted by sorcery. It's lucky the couple's own reaction wasn't "So we really were enchanted to love each other then?" His rant at Uther was brilliant, though, and when he turned on Arthur it was hilarious.

And they avoided having Merlin play for time by confessing to even more sins before he gets burnt at the stake, which would have been a ripoff of The Black Adder's "Witchsmeller Purisivent". (It also ties into my previous comment about the lack of a New Religion - in yer actual witch trials, of course there was a point of confessing all your sins, even though you were getting burnt at the stake either way - it supposedly had an effect on where you went afterwards).
