Yes, the story of Clark Kent's life before becoming Superman continues, even though Clatk's pre-Superman life now includes the Justice League, the Legion of Superheroes, a career at the Daily Planet with Lois Lane, a secert identity as a superhero, pretty much all his villains, and the death of Lex Luthor. At this point they could actually do a version of "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow?" before Clark puts on the cape.

It does look like we're heading towards Superman this time though. Clark even has a costume now, a version of the black Kryptonian survival suit from "Death and Return", with the addition of a Badass Longcoat. As I predicted the "Lois in the future" story gets resolved by her arriving back in the present almost immediately, although it's not that simple - I hadn't realised she'd only gone forward a year, rather than to the Legion's time, and the Kryptonian woman who says Clark is going to destroy everything is obviously This Year's Arc, carefully set up so that, by definition, it gets resolved in the finale.

Meanwhile, the Big Bad this year appear to be Major Zod, who I assume is related to the General Zod who posessed Lex way back when, and has the same obsession with people kneeling before him. The actor's Cockney accent (he sounds a lot like Michael Caine) is an interesting choice; I assume they wanted to stick with the idea of Zod having an English accent from the movies, but didn't want someone who actually sounded like Terrance Stamp, for obvious reasons. The two cadets who keep arguing with him didn't get named, that I noticed, but I assume that they're Non and Ursa.

Interesting that Zod's army know they should have powers on Earth. Was that common knowledge on Krypton?

And we also get another major villain, as the guy who's taken Clark's job turns out to be John Corben, which means he becomes Metallo. Now, in the comics, Metallo is a huge deal - he's The Man With The Kryptonite Heart. In Smallville though, "powered by Kryptonite" has rather lost its impact over the years, despite Dr Hamilton insisting Corben isn't a meteor freak. (And I don't think I'd registered that the League doctor was Superman's science guy in the comics before.)

And the "Clark has to sacrifice his humanity and become the Blur fulltime" story doesn't get resolved, but a reason is found for him to be back at the Planet anyway. It occurs to me that this would have been a good juncture (well, as good a juncture as you can get at this point) for him to start wearing the glasses (he's been away a while, he's now using "Clark" as a disguise), but no.
