Iron Man 2

daibhidcOh, yeah. Keep meaning to say I went to see this on Wednesday.
Pretty good. I wasn't sure about the idea of Justin Hammer as the villain, because I thought "a Corrupt Corporate Exceutive opposed to Stark? Did they not just do that?" But they made him different from Stane; while Stane was a humourless prat who disapproved of Tony's showboating, Hammer is trying to be a Cool Exec like Tony.
The Composite Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash character actually worked very well, along with the idea that Vanko was able to duplicate Iron Man's armour because his father had helped design the arc reactor. I suspect Iron Man 3 is going to be based on "Armour Wars" in the comics, with various other factions getting hold of Vanko's arc reactor plans, and Tony trying to keep a lid on it.
"Natalie Rushman": Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. was cool, and even had a "Widow's Bite", sort of (those taser things). And it was nice to see Happy Hogan getting a bit more screen time, since he's one of those characters that's kind of disappeared in the wake of new people entering the supporting cast. (In fact, I think Happy is dead in the comics. Or in a coma. Or something.)
There were two laugh-out-loud moments for me: the scene where Tony makes Pepper C.E.O., and the scene where War Machine fires Hammer's super-bullet at Whiplash, and it bounces right off.
Criticism: Well, the whole Tony/Rhodey spat never really convinced; yes, Tony's acting like a jerk, but he's been doing that for your entire friendship, James, why take it as a reason to steal his armour now? And I was disappointed that the "new element" that now powers the armour was never named. I'm assuming it's vibranium, but ICBW. (Although if it is, the scene where Tony uses Captain America's shield to prop his collider up is extra-ironic -- he has a huge chunk of the metal he's trying to create in front of him, and doesn't even notice!)
And if they're going to keep having cool teasers for the next Avengers film after the credits, could they speed the credits up a bit?
