Years ago, I wrote Scots translations of a couple of Discworld short stories ("Theatre of Cruelty" and "Death And What Comes Next"). Shortly thereafter I read in Ansible magazine that Harry Potter was to be translated to Classical Greek, and instantly wrote in wondering if there'd be a market for Hendrie Patter and the Wiseman's Stane, or at least if I could convince a publisher that there was.

It's now apparent that, if there is such a market, it's already been cornered. If anyone's going to translate Harry Potter into Scots, it's going to be Matthew Fitt and James Robertson of Itchy Coo , who have already done many of Roald Dahl's works (The Eejits, Geordie's Mingin Medicine, The Sleekit Mr Tod), Winnie-The-Pooh, Alan Grant's graphic novel versions of Kidnapped (Kidnappit) and Jekyll and Hyde (The Unco Case o Dr Jekyll an Mr Hyde), and a book of fairy tales.

As a Highlander, Scots is a second language (I speak Scottish English, which is different), so I'm starting with a disadvantage...

Edit: I'm not actually complaining about this; doing a couple of stories was fun, but a novel looks like work. I'd far rather someone else did it, and then I'd read it.
