Okay, apparently I only do these for every second episode now.

(Actually, tell you what, mini-reviews of "Into The Dalek" - Very reminiscent of "Dalek", but why would you want to make a Dalek episode that wasn't? - and "Listen" - Extremely spooky and, as I've said elsewhere, the ultimate expression of the theory that the scariest monster is the one you don't see. Now, where were we?)

Another fun episode. It's amazing that Doctor Who has never done a caper story before. Even if you include the Expanded Universe, I think this is only the second one. (The first being the DWM free Big Finish CD "The Veiled Leopard".)

So we get sci-fi versions of all the tropes; the mastermind who only tells our team exactly what they need to know, the criminal hacker and the master of disguise, the supposedly unbreakable security represented by a deeply unsympathetic antagonist, the vault that needs to be unlocked at a certain time, and so on.

I really liked Psi and Saiba and I'm glad they survived, even if this being an Everybody Lives episode meant there was no Missy again. (And indeed, no mention of the Promised Land, which I would say makes this the second episode in a row where the arc plot is unmentioned. Except ... we're reminded that A Strange Woman gave Clara the Doctor's phone number. Is that the Missy arc? We don't know, but probably.)

And through it all, the question is why did the Doctor and Clara agree to rob a bank? And the answer, once it comes, is perfect; not a robbery, but a rescue mission. And then we get the "flashback to what was actually going on", which was, well, if you're doing a BBC caper story why not steal Hustle's format?

Criticisms? Okay, when the Doctor did his big "What's the one thing we know about the Architect?" eureka moment that was fine, but it was a bit weird that Clara had no idea what he was getting at. I mean, it was kind of obvious.
