I've been reading about the new Star Trek movie. For those who don't know, this is a prequel movie, set shortly before the Original Series, with a new cast playing Kirk and co[1]. One of the things I read was that there was a time-travel element to it, and as well as Sylar-from-Heroes as Young Spock, there would also be Leonard Nimoy as Old Spock, emphasising that this was the same universe, not a total reinvention like Battlestar Galactica

This made me think of something which they probably aren't doing, but which I think would be a really good idea. This is, basically, the feature-length pilot the original series never got at the time.

So, by the rules of Star Trek feature-length pilots, there should be a quick cameo by either Scott Bakula under several layers of aging make-up or Jolene Blalock with grey hair.

[1]Oddest casting decision so far: Simon Pegg as Scotty. As it said in SFX, his only similarity to James Doohan is not being Scottish...

Actually, I don't have much to say about this episode. The plot was decent enough, Arthur got to show that he's a bold knight and not just an arrogant twerp, and there were no new revelations about how much this version was deviating from the Gospel According To Mallory (although, when Uther started talking to Arthur about his past experience with Nimueh and how he'd "look[ed] into a sorceror's heart", without actually going into details, I started trying to remember if Igraine had ever been mentioned, or if we'd just been told Arthur's mother wasn't around...). All in all, a decent episode, but not one that lets me show off my rudimentary knowledge of Arthuriana by pointing out how they're deviating.

Next week: Lancelot. Expect me to be back on schedule for that 8-)!
