Merlin - The Wicked Day

I never posted about last week's episode because I was too taken aback by the SHOCK DEATH. But apparently, if I'm going to keep not being able to write a review because OMG they killed a main character, I'm never going to write anything at all. Anyway, this week's death wasn't quite as shocking as last week's.
(Last week's review in brief: Gaius and Guenevere get more to do than they did in the first part, yay; oh dear, it's the return of the Naked Mole Rats of Unusual Size; they just killed Lancelot, what the heck?)
This week, Random Villain working for Random Villain King kills Uther. Arthur is prepared to use magic to save his life, which Merlin thinks is a chance for magic to be accepted. And, of course, it All Goes Horribly Wrong.
...Although I'm not clear why it all goes horribly wrong. I mean, I know why Uther died; Morgana gave him a talisman that reverses healing magic. But given that Gaius is widely accepted to know about these things, I'm not clear why he can't tell Arthur this, rather than let him believe the Old Sorcerer was directly responsible for Uther's death.
Apart from that niggle, a very good episode which mixed emotional with comedy (the moment when Merlin suddenly realised he was accompanying Arthur to meet ... himself, and had utterly failed to think this through, was a highlight), without it ever jarring. I'm going to miss Uther, though.
