I posted this in afp, and have since had a request to post it here.

It all started with a comment about Nation (now available from all good bookshops). In this book one of the main characters sings the full version of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". The revelation that there was a full version of "Twinkle, Twinkle" prompted me to wonder what the full version of "Twinke, Twinkle, Little Bat" was.

Here's what I came up with:

Twinkle, twinkle, little bat,
How I wonder what you're at!
Up above the world you fly,
Like a teatray in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you swoop out for a bite,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveller in the dark,
Won't mistake you for a lark.
He will get a nasty scare,
When you get caught in his hair.

In the dark blue sky you cheap,
To create a sonar sweep,
For you never shut your eye,
Till the sun is in the sky.

As you fly across the park,
Scaring travellers in the dark,
Though I know not what you're at,
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat.
