There's a member of the weasel family called the zorilla. The name is Spanish for "little fox"; fox in Spanish being, of course, "zorro".

So was King Kong a gorro?

Sadly, Wiktionary and the OED agree that 'gorilla' is derived from Greek rather than Spanish, and isn't a diminutive.
