Discworld Convention 2012 - Part Three

Okay, so it turns out we're not taking the overnight train to London[1] as per usual, but are leaving in the morning, I can write this up now.

Forgot to go to the Banishment of Bel-Shamaroth, but since the hotel was not devoured by the Sender of Eighnnnnn ... Seven-A, I can assume it was successful.

The performance of Faust Eric was also successful, with lots of nice touches like the universe being created to an electric guitar version of Also Sprach Zaruthsta (since, as Soul Music readers know, the so-called Big Bang was actually "the ultimate power chord").

And the closing ceremony. Thanks were given, prizes were awarded, my hands started hurting from how much I was clapping, and convention chairman Brian declared that he was stepping down as chairman ... at which point, in symmetry with the opening ceremony, Dr Hix, Postmortem Communicator Dr John Hicks, Head of Productions smashed him over the head with a prop bottle. Dr Hicks is the new chairman and whetted our appetite by telling us the theme: this year's was the Old Ankh-Morpork of The Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic, so the next one is the New Ankh-Morpork of Snuff, The City Guide and of course, Terry Pratchett's The Watch.

Two years to go...

Things I wish I'd done: checked out the roleplaying room, and maybe even joined in (they had GURPS Discworld run by the guy who wrote it, and a game about trolls run by [livejournal.com profile] ericjarvis); caught the Banishment; maybe joined a sect; and as ever spoken to more afpers (I said brief hellos to Bri-D and [livejournal.com profile] ciciaye in queues, and had a quick chat with [livejournal.com profile] marco_villalta at the Transworld drinks party.ETA: And I said "hi" to Rob Colier in a lift.)[2] Next time...

[1]Yes, Mum has worked this out and the simplest and most efficient way to get from Inverness to Birmingham by train is via London.

[2]The second-to-last would doubtless have helped with the last, of course. I suppose my social phobia leaves me a bit uncomfortable about sects. (Reset the counter!)
